IV Nutrient Therapy in Newark, DE

IV nutrient therapy, also called IV vitamin therapy, delivers fluids, vitamins and minerals through a small IV in a vein, so the nutrients go straight into the bloodstream and bypass the digestive system. Medically, IV fluids and nutrients are used to treat dehydration, replace electrolytes during illness and help people who cannot absorb nutrients well by mouth. Many people also seek IV drips for energy, mental clarity, immune support or migraine relief, although high-quality studies on these wellness uses are still lacking. IV therapy carries risks such as infection, bruising and getting too much of a vitamin, and it is not advised for people with heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure or pregnancy.

What Is IV Vitamin Therapy?

IV vitamin therapy delivers fluids, vitamins and minerals through a small IV in your arm, so the nutrients go straight into your bloodstream and bypass your digestive system. In medicine, IV fluids and nutrients are used to treat dehydration, replace electrolytes during illness and help people whose bodies cannot absorb nutrients well from food or pills.

Many people also choose IV therapy for energy, mental clarity, immune support or migraine relief. High-quality studies on these wellness uses are still lacking, and IV therapy is not a replacement for medication, a healthy diet, exercise, sleep or stress management. We think that honesty matters, so each drip above lists exactly what is in it.

Which IV Drip Is Right for You?

Our Myers’ Cocktail is the base for several of our drips, including Performance and Recovery, Immune Push and Hangover Relief, which add extra nutrients or medications on top. Glutathione and NAD+ can be given on their own. If you are not sure where to start, read which IV therapy is right for you, or ask us at your visit. You can learn more about each drip on its own page, including the Myers’ Cocktail, glutathione IV and NAD+ infusion.

Is IV Therapy Safe?

IV therapy is a medical procedure, so it carries real risks. Those include infection, bruising, blocked veins, nausea or dizziness from too much of a vitamin, and interactions with medications. IV vitamin therapy is not advised for people with heart disease, high blood pressure or kidney disease, or for people who are pregnant.

That is why every visit at Renew Integrative Health starts with a review of your medical history and vital signs, and why a registered nurse places your IV and monitors you throughout.

What to Expect From IV Therapy

Once your medical history and vital signs have been reviewed, a registered nurse places an IV in a vein in your arm. Normal saline starts first, before the vitamins are added. A warm compress is available if you would like one, and some people feel sleepy and choose to nap during the infusion.

We take our time with each infusion rather than rushing it. When it is finished, we suggest taking it easy for the rest of the day.

How to Prepare for Your IV Therapy Appointment

Before your infusion, it is best to be well hydrated. Sometimes we suggest starting with a hydration IV before adding vitamins. Baseline lab work can help customize an infusion, but it is not required for a standard drip. A trained healthcare professional will review your health information and the risks and benefits of each infusion with you.
