Hypothyroidsm & Hyperthyroidism

Hypothyroidism(under active) and hyperthyroidism (over active) are thyroid disorders affecting metabolism and energy regulation. The thyroid gland produces hormones T3 (active) and T4 (inactive) controlled by TSH from the pituitary gland. Hypothyroidism causes low energy, weight gain, brain fog, cold extremities, brittle hair/nails, depression, and infertility, while hyperthyroidism (often from Grave’s disease) causes rapid heartbeat, anxiety, weight loss, tremors, and goiter. Standard TSH testing alone is inadequate, comprehensive testing should include Free T3, Free T4, and Reverse T3 levels. Treatment for hypothyroidism includes synthetic T4 (Synthroid), desiccated thyroid (Armour), or customized T4/T3 combinations. Hyperthyroidism treatment involves antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine, or thyroidectomy surgery.
